Discover French House, our latest sample pack released in Remixlive, and learn more about the background of the style that inspired it.
French House, also known as the French Touch, is style of electronic music born in the mid-1990s in France. It all began with artists like Cassius, Laurent Garnier, Daft Punk, Bob Sinclar or David Guetta crafting an anthemic and heavily-filtered mix of space disco, American-inspired Deep House and rock’n’roll guitar riffs accompanied by “sexy” vocals.
The style really took hold with the release of 1997’s Homework. It was Daft Punk’s first album and a runaway hit that made waves on the international stage. Not only did it put France on the map as a serious purveyor of modern music, it also gave electronic music a great deal of mainstream attention. It seemed for a time that the entire world was listening to France.
French House peaked in the aftermath of the release of Homework. It enjoyed its highest popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The track most emblematic of that period in time arguably being Music Sounds Better With You, by Stardust. That track was produced by none other than Thomas Bangalter (again from Daft Punk) and Alan Braxe, with Benjamin Diamond on vocals.
Since then, artists from the French Touch have all made their own way in the music scene: David Guetta and Bob Sinclar shifted towards EDM ; Daft Punk moved on to produce several widely popular records and influence a second wave of French artists with the rise of the Ed Banger sound in the mid-to-late-2000s.
Make sure to give the audio preview a listen if you are eager to discover this style or if you are already a fan. French House is available for purchase within Remixlive, which also includes several free packs. Remixlive can be downloaded for free from the iOS App Store and the Android Play Store.
